Curriculum
Doha Academy provides the English National Curriculum based on international standards, while being sensitive to Saudi cultural values
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
EYFS comprises of Nursery (3-4yrs) and Reception (4-5yrs). Each class is run by a class teacher, supported by a teaching assistant. Our EYFS program is based on British standards and employs a developmentally appropriate, holistic approach to teaching. It focuses on academics and includes social and emotional growth. At Doha Academy, we believe that each child is unique and has their own preferred way of learning. We provide a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment, that is supportive of students as individuals and members of a team. We encourage children’s curiosity, playfulness, determination, problem solving, creativity and social growth by developing close relationships with family and the wider community.
Nursery
Our Nursery class’s main aim is to nurture language and social and physical development. For most children, this will be the first time they are separated from their parents; therefore, there is a strong focus on our ‘transition to school’ programme where we place an emphasis on making your child feel confident and comfortable in their classroom and the whole school environment.
Our philosophy is to focus on preparing children for school as well as to support, and challenge our children to fully develop their love of learning, knowledge, skills, self-confidence and compassion towards others. It is vitally important to prepare children for later learning, to do this we place an emphasis on learning through play and hands on, physical activities.
Reception
Although still very much learning through play in Nursery, the children are introduced to more formal academics of the British Curriculum. They will focus on literacy and numeracy skills, knowledge of the world around them and social, emotional and physical development. Children with Arabic as a first language will also have structured Arabic lessons throughout the week. Children who only speak English will be introduced to Arabic through songs, role play and games.

Year 1
For literacy and numeracy, we use the English National Curriculum for guidelines adapted to fit the international backgrounds of our students. Throughout the year we will also cover science, history and geography through a variety of topics. In addition, students will also take part in art activities, P.E, music and Arabic lessons.
Students will have many opportunities to develop their literacy skills through speaking and listening, reading, writing, phonics, grammar, handwriting and spelling. English is taught across the curriculum using topics and themes as well as the programmes of study in the English National Curriculum. Students will practise and improve their skills in counting, recognising numerals and solving mathematical problems such as addition and subtraction. Students will also develop their knowledge about shape, space, and measurement.
Children with Arabic as a first language will also have structured Arabic lessons throughout the week. Children who only speak English will be introduced to Arabic through songs, role play and games.
Year 2
An enquiry based environment is used to encourage children to think independently and be proactive with their own learning both in class and at home, whilst technology is used to enhance understanding and creativity whenever possible. Arabic Language and Islamic Studies Integration
At Doha Academy we are aware that our Saudi national students need to have a strong base in Arabic language and knowledge of islamic studies and their national identity. Arabic language, islamic studies and national heritage is integrated throughout our students learning experience.
